It’s time for the Holiday Party! You have so much to be thankful for this year, yet somehow your self-esteem feels like a tundra. You might be excited about what you’re wearing or all the things you’ve accomplished this year — but deep down, it’s hard to shake those bad feelings and put yourself out there when meeting new people. Why is this stuff so hard?!
1- Wear Something You Like
The last thing you want to do is drag yourself to all those fancy parties in your favorite silky lingerie. You want to dress up but don’t want to feel like a fancy cocktail party chestnut.
Instead of getting dressed up for the party, keep it simple: Wear something you love that suits your body shape. If you like to wear sleek, sexy dresses — go for it! But if you want to dress up and feel fabulous in skinny jeans and a nice top, do that too. The point is to feel good in what you wear.
2- Bust Out the Bold Lipstick
Wearing lipstick is a great way to feel confident. Because, unlike mascara, lip gloss and lipstick will stay on all day and night. Don’t be shy in the bathroom; reapply all day long if you’ve chosen something bold or if the other women are wearing it! Make sure that you are comfortable with your choice of lipstick — and that it does not clash with your skin tone (if you have very pale skin) or color your lips too much (if you have dark lips).
3- Dont Try to Talk to Everybody
It’s a social event, so talk to as many people as possible! But when it comes to meeting new people — don’t feel you have to chat with every person that strikes your fancy.
4- Smile
You don’t have to look like a happy cartoon character — just try to keep your face softened and relaxed. You should smile with your eyes! If you’re thinking of something funny, laugh inside and let it shine in your eyes.
5- Book Spa Services
We all know how to pamper ourselves, don’t we? It’s so much easier to be relaxed and ready to party if we feel like our body is tip-top. Book a massage or facial a few days before the holiday party. A few hours of pampering before an important event will relieve stress and make you feel fresh!
6- Take a Walk
Exercise is a great way to boost mood! Physical activity tends to relieve stress and improve self-esteem. A vigorous exercise will get your heart racing and clear your head — exactly what you need before a big party.
7- Recite Positive Affirmations to Yourself Before the Party
If you’re anxious about approaching people, try to remind yourself that the whole thing will be fun and exciting. Use affirmations such as: “I’m so excited to meet everybody tonight; I love this party!” or “I feel confident and beautiful in my dress — thank you, God.” Just don’t forget to do them!
Just because you don’t feel like going to the party doesn’t mean you shouldn’t! Sometimes we forget to relax and enjoy the holiday season. Don’t stress about it — just smile and remember the reason for the party in the first place.
