While not everyone agrees about political issues, many people agree that politics and the candidates who represent them are important. If you want to show support for your political candidate of choice and hope to sway a few people to see your side–and let’s be honest, who doesn’t want that?!–then you can take the few steps below to let everyone know that you’re an ardent supporter.

1. Flag Flying

Flying a flag might be the most obvious way to support your candidate. You can install a pole in your yard or on a building on your property. Some people even attach flags to their vehicles, although we understand that’s not for everyone. And if you can’t install anything permanent, a garden flag hanger might be the perfect compromise because they’re easily removed. Plus, you can switch out the flags periodically to show your support for other causes or to match the current season. Match your flag with a bumper sticker, and you’re good to go!

2. Donations

Donating is an impactful way to support your political candidate because that money can be used directly to fund their campaign and spread their message to a wider audience through ads and appearances. Because people often associate the amount of money a candidate has been able to raise with their chances of winning a political race, contributing to them financially can help with their momentum that way. Don’t forget to share links to fundraisers to encourage others to donate.

3. Volunteering

Whether you offer your time to stuff and lick an envelope, pound the pavement for door-to-door conversations, or make phone calls to potential voters on behalf of your preferred candidate, you’re showing support in a big way. You don’t necessarily have to pound the pavement to have meaningful conversations that encourage people to be engaged in their civic duties–and hopefully see all the good a candidate can do for the world. Why not try volunteering your time for a rally, march, or other event in favor of your candidate? And if you really enjoy being involved in the political process, you can earn a little money by manning the polls on election days!

4. Engaging Online

Finally, engaging online can support your favorite political candidate, and we don’t just mean shouting into echo chambers, having impersonal “conversations,” or finding yourself in flame wars. Rather, liking, commenting, and sharing a candidate’s content, including text, multimedia, and links, can help make it more visible to people in your network and inform more people about the candidate and their platform. Of course, you can share content directly to your own timeline or profile and add commentary, but being mindful of how you communicate can go a long way because some people may pull their support from a candidate if their proponents seem like unreasonable people. Instead, show that you can understand nuance and look for common ground with people, even if they might vote for someone who seems like a bad choice to you.
